FarmPlex

Scalable Biological Farming Infrastructure

FarmPlex systems extend the biological principles demonstrated in FarmTainer ecosystems into larger commercial-scale food production facilities.

By combining multiple FarmTainer modules into an integrated aquaponic production system, FarmPlex allows growers to scale food production while maintaining the balanced biological nutrient cycles that make aquaponic ecosystems productive and resilient.

How FarmPlex Systems Work

A typical FarmPlex configuration combines five modular systems:

• Three crop production modules
• One fish production module
• One workspace and operations module

Together, these modules form an integrated aquaponic ecosystem where nutrients are continuously cycled through microbial processes.

Fish naturally produce organic nutrients in the water. Beneficial microorganisms convert those nutrients into plant-available forms that plants absorb for growth.

As plants absorb nutrients, they help maintain water balance for the fish, creating a stable biological system capable of continuous production.

Scaling Biological Food Production

By operating multiple FarmTainer modules together, FarmPlex systems allow growers to expand production while maintaining biological balance.

A typical FarmPlex system can produce approximately:

• up to 17,000 heads of lettuce per month
• up to 6,000 pounds of fish annually

Production levels vary depending on crop selection, environmental conditions, and system management.

Like individual FarmTainer systems, FarmPlex facilities use highly efficient water recycling, often reducing water use by up to 90% compared to conventional agriculture.

Biological Systems at Commercial Scale

FarmPlex systems demonstrate that biological farming can scale without relying on synthetic nutrient programs.

Instead of separating aquaculture and crop production, FarmPlex integrates both into a single ecosystem where microbial processes manage nutrient cycling.

This approach allows growers to produce food with improved water efficiency while maintaining stable biological conditions year-round.

MicroRevive and the FarmPlex Ecosystem

The microbial nutrient cycles operating inside FarmPlex systems also contribute to the development of MicroRevive.

As these ecosystems operate, beneficial microbial communities convert organic nutrients into plant-available forms while maintaining biological balance throughout the system.

The biological insights gained from managing these systems helped shape the development of MicroRevive for soil-based agriculture.

In this way, FarmPlex facilities serve not only as food production systems but also as biological learning environments for regenerative agriculture.

Designed for Regional Food Systems

FarmPlex systems are well suited for organizations seeking resilient and efficient food production infrastructure.

Common use cases include:

• commercial fresh food producers
• regional food hubs and cooperatives
• municipal and institutional food programs
• controlled-environment agriculture operators
• education and research facilities

By combining biological nutrient cycling with modular infrastructure, FarmPlex allows communities to produce food closer to where it is consumed.

Modular and Expandable Infrastructure

FarmPlex systems are designed to grow with operational needs.

Additional modules can be added as production expands, allowing facilities to scale gradually without disrupting existing operations.

This modular approach allows growers to balance biological stability, operational efficiency, and production growth over time.

Building Resilient Food Production Systems

Future Fresh Farms developed FarmPlex to demonstrate that large-scale food production can operate within balanced biological ecosystems.

When fish, plants, and microorganisms work together, agriculture becomes more water-efficient, more resilient, and less dependent on external inputs.

FarmPlex represents one approach to building the next generation of biologically driven food systems.

Explore the Future of Biological Agriculture

FarmPlex systems bring together aquaculture, plant production, and microbial ecology into scalable food production infrastructure.

These systems demonstrate the biological principles that also guide Future Fresh Farms’ soil-based solutions, including MicroRevive.
